Capital Markets Regulatory Expert, DG FISMA, European Commission and member of the FinTech Task Force, European Commission
Peter is a member of the Taskforce on financial technology (Fintech) at the European Commission’s DG for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union. The work of the Task force is part of the European Commission’s effort on promoting a thriving and globally competitive European financial sector that brings benefits to the EU economy and its society. New technologies can benefit both individual consumers and firms by enabling greater access to financial services, choice, efficiency, and a more competitive landscape.
Peter joined the European Commission in 2008. He has extensive experience in EU policy in a range of areas through his work on capital markets regulation (trading venues, investment firms, Crowdfunding issues), and, prior to that, competition and merger control policy and enforcement at DG COMP, European Commission. Prior to joining the European Commission, Peter who is a trained lawyer, clerked at the Court Justice of the EU, Luxembourg. He also worked as a lawyer in private practice advising major global and European companies on EU affairs in the area of competition law and merger control.
He holds a masters degree in European affairs from the College of Europe in Bruges, a DEA degree from the University from Montpellier, and a masters degree in Law from the University of Lund, Sweden (native country).
